Studies on alkaline phosphatase of kidney during sulfur dioxide intoxication in rat

Abstract
This present study was performed to determine the change of enzyme activity of alkaline phosphatase with sulfur dioxide intoxication in kidney of rat.
Experimental animals, Sprague-Dawley strained rats, were divided into normal and intoxicated groups. The intoxicated groups were exposured by 5 and 10 ppm for 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours, 6 hours and 12 hours.
The tissue was taken from the cortex of kidney. Sections at 10 ¥ìm were cut from frozen tissue and Gomori method was used for alkaline phosphatase.
The following results were obtained;
1. In control, alkaline phosphatase activity represented strong activity at proximal convoluted tubule and mild activity at distal convoluted tubule.
2. Decrement of enzyme activity was initiated and respresented moderate activity at proximal convoluted
tubule in 1 hour of 5 ppm exposure group. But, there was no change at distal convoluted tubule.
3. Decrement of enzyme activity was intiated and represented moderate activity at proximal convoluted
tubule in 30 minutes of 10 ppm exposure group. But, there was no change at distal convoluted tubule.
